So the other day, a client shared her perspective on a print she purchased, and honestly, it surprised me. She saw something in it that I had never even considered or imagined. I think that’s one of the most fascinating aspects of art; the way it speaks to people in so many different ways, depending on their experiences, emotions, or even their state of mind in the moment.
What really struck me was how, as the artist, you often become so engrossed in your own vision, in what you so clearly see, that it can be hard to imagine how someone else will see it. Reminding me again, that once it leaves my hands, it begins its own journey, and the viewer brings their own experience to it.
This is what art is, it’s not just about the artist’s intent. It’s about the exchange between the artwork and the viewer, an ongoing dialogue that evolves over time. Every person who interacts with it contributes something new, adding layers of meaning that even the artist might not have anticipated.
