A Ray of Light(er) Times: Peace and Reflection

Finding Light and Meaning in a Peace Sign

During a recent visit to the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts, I was drawn to this captivating sculpture. There before me stood a large scale peace sign sculpture in a vibrant shade of red. It was the 4th of July weekend, typically a time of celebration, yet I found myself feeling far from festive. As I came upon this piece, the sun streamed through the raised fingers, casting a golden stream of light. In that moment, I was reminded that even when things feel heavy, there’s usually light at the end of the tunnel.

The peace sign has long been one of my favorite symbols, representing hope, unity, and calm. This bold, modern interpretation brought all of that into focus. The sculpture’s scale, simplicity, and placement gave it an emotional presence that couldn’t be ignored and did not disappoint! What started as a casual walk through the sculpture park became an unexpected moment of reflection. Art has a way of revealing its emotional power when you least expect it. Additionally, it can provide a sense of calmness even when life feels uncertain.

You are a more zen person than I my friend. I enjoyed exploring the deCordova this year for the first time but it was the company that was a balm to my psyche.

Our circle under the big tree, without a doubt, was the catalyst for my state of mind!?
