When One Painting Sparks a Cohesive Grouping

From a Single Canvas to an Artfully Cohesive Grouping

I sold the larger original abstract painting last spring, and once the new owners got it home and chose to hang it above their treasured piano, they realized the space called for more than just one piece. They reached out to commission three custom companion paintings. We had a productive conversation about how to create a cohesive grouping that would be visually connected without feeling too repetitive.

To create a cohesive abstract art grouping, I chose to unify the four pieces using a consistent color palette rather than repeating specific techniques. This approach allowed for a variety of textures and visual differences, while color served as the unifying thread. I pulled key tones directly from the original abstract painting, using them in different ways across the companion pieces to establish flow and connection. Each custom painting stands on its own, yet clearly relates to the other pieces without repetitiveness. The end result is a harmonious grouping that allows the viewer to experience the movement and beauty of each piece.

If you’re looking for a statement piece or a cohesive grouping, I now offer custom abstract paintings tailored to your interior space.
